2011 SAMA WINNERS
Thursday, June 2nd, 2011
On the 20th and 21st of may 2011, all eyes were peeled on one of the music industry’s most prestigious events, The 17th Annual South African Music Awards.
With the big move from Sun City to Montecasino in Johannesburg, the stage was set for an exciting weekend of music, entertainment and all-round celebrations. The show did not fail to impress and we were thrilled to see no less than 5 of Hybrid’s valued clients walk away with the coveted awards.
A huge congratulations to the guys from Versus the Wolf, who won a SAMA in the category Best Album Art/Packaging for their debut album Uncovering Faces.
The artwork for their album, which took the form of an impressive Digibook, was done by two of the band members, proving that their talents stretch far beyond singing and drumming. Nicholas Smal was responsible for the quirky illustrations while Rash Ferguson pulled it all together with his outstanding design and layout skills. The end result is a true collector’s item and a definite must-have on any music (or design) lover’s shelf.
We would also like to congratulate Peter Martens & Luis Magalhåes for winning the Best Popular Classical Album award for the second year in a row with their album Beethoven: Complete Sonatas for Cello and Piano, as well as Ological Studies, whose album OS Freedom was awarded the title of Best Contemporary Jazz Album. We’d also like to applaud Goldfish, who won the award for Best Global Dance Album with their album Get Busy Living, and well done also to Wouter Kellerman, whose album Two Voices won him the SAMA for Best Instrumental Album.
Once again it’s been an absolute pleasure to see these talented artists get the recognition they deserve. We’re honoured to have worked with some of the best musicians in the industry… Well done to all of you!
